Carefully selected gemstones help you create outstanding necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Catlinite, also known as pipestone or pipeclay, is a brownish red type of Argillite which is metamorphosed mudstone. It is easy to work with and used by Native Americans largely for making sacred pipes. Pipestone quarries are preserved in Pipestone National Monument in Minnesota as well as in Ontario, Canada, although the Canadian quarry is no longer used. Catlinite is protected since only enrolled Native Americans may quarry for it at the Pipestone National Monument. Catlinite is said to be a protective stone that helps connect the spiritual and the physical.
