Ammolites are sometimes referred to as buffalo stones as a result of a legend pertaining to Blackfoot Native Americans (http://www.ammolites.com/geminfo.php).These organic gemstones are found in the Rocky Mountains of the United States and Canada and are the fossilized shells of the upper cretaceous ammonites. Ammolites may be used as fossil indexes because the rock layers in which they are found can relate to specific geologic time periods. Ammolites are 97% aragonite which is responsible for the intense color play in specimens. Visible reds, blues, greens and yellows may be apparent when the light hits an Ammolite. Take care of Ammolites and do not soak them for a long time. Keep them away from hairspray, perfumes, acids or ammonia. Ammolites are used by practioners of Feng Shui who believe the stone gives the owner health, wealth and enlightenment.
